AMERICAN MODERN HOME: JACOBSEN ARCHITECTURE + INTERIORS

Author Simon Jacobsen; Introduction by Paul Goldberger
(Rizzoli, $75)

The late Hugh Newell Jacobson once said, “The best house is polite to her neighbors and never shouts.” That directive was clearly passed on to his son, Simon, who now heads the namesake firm. While the firm’s houses are (often) decidedly unrestrained on the exterior, their interiors are infused with natural light that animates the rooms. Absent moldings and other decorative flourishes, the rooms rely on their volumetric forms to express structure. The firm’s houses manage to be serene and contemplative yet filled with personality.
