There are several “escape” places that New Yorkers know about—those locales some two hours away from Manhattan that serve as respites for weary city folk. Of all the regions, though, the adjoining Catskills and the lush Hudson Valley have long been the favorites. Prolific interiors and architectural photographer William Abranowicz chose 20 of his favorite houses in the region to capture on film, ones both old and historic and others new and thoroughly contemporary. He even includes the residences and studios of Thomas Cole and Frederic Church, the landscape painters of the region whose venerable canvases first brought the scale and topography of the region to America as a whole. This volume presents yet another new look at one of America’s most beautiful places.
