A couple in California wanted their coastal home to be inviting for themselves and their neighbors.
Jill and Kevin Cadieux had put all their eggs in one basket. And when they returned from the chicken coop beside their California home, they began sorting through those eggs with designer Amy Meier.
“It was our very first meeting,” recalls Meier, “and I was asking the clients about their likes and dislikes. Jill starting pulling eggs out of the basket and talking about colors, and about how she and Kevin live and dress. The three of us compared the shades of their eggs, all those soft blues and greens and tans. Then we discussed how the pink and purple flowers from their garden pulled so naturally into that scheme. Suddenly, we had our color palette.”
Another designer might have brought along a fan deck of paint colors to that first client meeting in Solana Beach, a half-hour north of San Diego. But another designer might also have missed what was right in front of her: a couple with a collaborative spirit, ready to trust and willing to follow her lead.
