The pages of MILIEU came to life on September 21 at Discover ADAC (Atlanta Decorative Arts Center). MILIEU’s Design Director, Leslie Newsom Rascoe, moderated a lively panel discussion with prolific interior designer Jackye Lanham and award-winning architect Stan Dixon, which was followed by a reception at the Cowtan & Tout showroom. The first item on the agenda was The Art of Slipcovers, the theme of MILIEU’s fall issue—a fact graciously acknowledged by Colefax and Fowler as they slipcovered the panelists’ chairs in fabrics and tapes from their latest collection, made specifically for the occasion. The heart of the discussion focused on the magical collaboration between Lanham and Dixon in the conception and realization of Jackye’s own home in the Low Country of South Carolina, a project featured in MILIEU’s fall issue. Using as inspiration a fictional carriage house that might have existed on the property in the late 1700s, Jackye and Stan drew on the invented story to unleash their creativity and drive their inspiration. The engaging exchange, with light-hearted moments and an energetic crowd, continued through to the well-attended reception, full of smiling designers and design enthusiasts.
