THE BELLE OF BELLE MEADE

Anyone who loves the color white as much as Rozanne Jackson does knows how difficult it is to get it right. White is, after all, the most complex color in the palette, with more variations and nuances than anything else in the spectrum. She and the homeowners of this new Nashville home in its Belle Meade area bonded, in part, through their mutual love for the color that they knew would be used amply inside and out.

“We’d pick out a white, apply a portion of it on the outside, especially on the shutters, but then the sunlight would hit it or it would suddenly get cloudy and we’d see how it changed color, and we’d start all over again,” says Jackson, a prolific (and patient) interior designer, as well as the owner and founder of Nashville’s The Iron Gate, the home décor destination that’s practically as big a draw in the city as the Grand Ole Opry. “White is especially tricky to get right for the outdoors,” she emphasizes. But she did eventually find the correct shade, something called Chapel, a hue that evokes the white one might find on the purest example of the namesake type of building.

Although Jackson had never before worked with the empty-nester husband-and-wife owners of this four-bedroom French-style home, designed by Nashville architect Ron Farris, the wife has been a longtime customer of The Iron Gate. “She’s followed us through the years,” explains Jackson, “and so much of what we do at the store was exactly what she likes to do at her home. She loves white, she loves antiques, and loves fine objects, and, so, knowing that made for a real easy start for both of us.”
